In this advanced beginning level setting workshop, students will learn metalsmithing techniques including measurement, sawing, forming, filing and soldering, to create a unique large-format prong setting and a bezel setting in sterling silver for their favorite cabochon and found object. Many different soldering applications will be covered. All materials will be provided.

In this multi-week beginning jewelry class, students will fabricate a sterling silver band ring, a sterling silver pendant with a bezel-set cabochon stone, a set of bangle bracelets. Learn the basic fundamentals of metalsmithing, while incorporating personal design touches. Multiple soldering and finishing techniques will be covered, and individual design is encouraged.

In this workshop, students will learn/review their piercing skills and then explore implementing crushed stone inlay into pierced designs. Students will first pierce a design into a top plate and solder it to a back plate, then crush the stone, and then inlay it into the channels pierced. Students will be using a variety of fabrication skills including drilling, piercing, sawing, soldering, stone inlay, filing, sanding and buffing.

Learn the basics of anticlastic raising, which involves manipulating the metal to create saddle-like, ruffled and organic forms. In this class, students will learn to raise pre-cut metal blanks on sinusoidal metal stakes using Delrin mallets designed for this task. At the end of this class, students will have completed a small pendant or metal sculpture. It is encouraged that students have a core understanding of beginning metalsmithing basics.

Create elegant leaf-shaped earrings or a pendant using fold forming—a dynamic and meditative metalworking technique. You’ll learn to turn flat sheet metal into sculptural forms with single, double, and triple line folds, as well as T and wedge T folds.
This class is great for beginners and experienced makers alike. You'll practice cutting, filing, annealing, soldering, and using hand tools safely and effectively. For teens and adults—no experience needed.

In this workshop, students will learn the basics of kiln fired enamel; the art of fusing powdered glass to metal. Students will learn the steps to make enameled jewelry including pendants and earrings, and how to safely work with a 1500º kiln. Techniques will include dry sifting colored enamel powder onto copper, using stencils and decals, sgraffito (scratching through a top layer of enamel to reveal the layer beneath), and painting on enamels. Students will work on several pieces to take home. No prior jewelry experience needed.

Beginning jewelry making students will learn the fundamental techniques for designing and fabricating a sterling silver textured band ring. Students will learn how to texture, file, form, solder, sand, and polish the ring. All materials will be provided, including sterling silver, copper (for practicing techniques), solder, and sandpaper.

In this hands-on workshop, students will be introduced to creating their own fused glass cabochons using colored, transparent and opaque glass, with copper and silver inclusions.
Students will learn to cut and arrange glass to make organic and geometric designs. Finished compositions will then be fired to create unique cabochon pieces, ready to be made into jewelry.

In this class, you will learn the fundamental skills required for sinking and raising copper vessels. In the first session, you will sink a small bowl, including finishing it with a foot and a tempered edge. In the second session, you will begin a second piece, focusing on introductory raising techniques to form a taller vessel and then stretching it vertically.

Beginning jewelry-making students can continue learning in this workshop which focuses on creating a set of 6 textured bangle bracelets. Sterling silver and copper will be used. Students will learn to further develop their fabrication skills, including measurement, texturing, filing, forming, soldering, and tumbler finishing.

These tapered hollow forms known as spiculums provide a unique 3D visual fascination to your work. In this workshop we will take flat sheet metal using a cross peen hammer and a grooved work surface to pull/coax the metal into a tapered cone shape. Fabrication skills included in this workshop will be sawing, filing, hammering, annealing and soldering.
Directed Open Studios
Open to intermediate students and above. Bring your ideas of what you would like to create in this hands-on open studio-style class. Students will spend one-on-one time with our teachers as they help you advance your skill set as you navigate from an idea to project completion. Students should bring the materials they intend to use, such as metal, stones, and any preferred hand tools.
