Beginning Jewelry (spring 25’)

3 Mondays: May 5, 12 & 19
Times: 1-4pm
In this multi-week beginning jewelry class, students will fabricate a sterling silver band ring, a sterling silver pendant with a bezel-set stone, and a set of bangle bracelets. Learn the basic fundamentals of metalsmithing, while incorporating personal design touches. Multiple soldering and finishing techniques will be covered, and individual design is encouraged. A materials fee of $100 is payable to the instructor on the first day of the class.

Beginning Jewelry Series: Bangle Bracelets

Beginning jewelry-making students can continue learning in this workshop which focuses on creating a set of 6 textured bangle bracelets. Sterling silver and copper will be used. Students will learn to further develop their fabrication skills, including measurement, texturing, filing, forming, soldering, and tumbler finishing. All materials will be provided, including sterling silver and copper (in different shaped wires), solder, and sandpaper. A materials fee of $40 is payable to the instructor on the day of the class.

Fold Forming Metal

Create beautiful organic forms. Leaf earrings or Leaf pendant Time to turn over a new leaf? Create three-dimensional forms from flat sheet metal. You’ll learn the basics of fold forming, an exciting and compelling technique that involves percussion and patience.
You will be introduced to and practice cutting, filing, basic annealing and soldering along with, a variety of hand tools and basic good workshop practices. Make earrings, a pendant or start of something more.

Making Jewelry Settings for Fused Glass Cabochons or Found Objects

In this workshop, students will learn metalsmithing techniques including measurement, cutting, forming, filing and soldering, to create a unique large-format prong setting and bezel setting in sterling silver for their favorite fused glass cabochons or found objects. Many different soldering applications will be covered. All materials will be provided, including sterling silver sheet, wire & bezel, saw blades, solder, sandpaper & more. A $50 materials fee is paid to the instructor on the day of class.

Beginning jewelry making students will learn the fundamental techniques for designing and fabricating a sterling silver textured band ring. Students will learn how to texture, file, form, solder, sand, and polish the ring. All materials will be provided, including sterling silver, copper (for practicing techniques), solder, and sandpaper. A materials fee of $40 is payable to the instructor on the day of the class.

Fused glass cabochons for jewelry making
Instructor: Michel l'Huillier
Cost: $125 | Material fee: $50
In this hands-on workshop, students will be introduced to creating their own fused glass cabochons using colored, transparent and opaque glass, with copper and silver inclusions.
Students will learn to cut and arrange glass to make organic and geometric designs. Finished compositions will then be fired to create unique cabochon pieces, ready to be made into jewelry. A $50 material fee is paid to the instructor on the day of class.
